Wānanga Matariki Aumihinui
Join us at Mahi Yoga for a special event to mark Matariki 2020.
Matariki is the time in the traditional Māori calendar when the nine stars of Matariki (the constellation known commonly as the Pleiades) appears in our night sky, marking the winter solstice, and inviting us to embrace the cycle of death and rebirth. Join with us to release what is past (including Levels 4, 3 and 2!) and welcome new things into our lives.
Our guides will be:
Tūī Matira Ranapiri-Ransfield (Ngāti Ohomairangi, Te Ariki Tapairu Tuhi Māreikura, Mātanga Mātauranga Māori)
Tūī will introduce the rich wisdom tradition surrounding Matariki, its mythic origins and the associated traditional practices that can help us become more aligned with the rhythms of the natural world.
Taane Mete (Ngāti Kahungunu, yoga teacher and choreographer)
Taane Mete, Jock Barns-Graham and Salvador Brown are touring the national with the Kia Ngāwari Humble Warrior Yoga tour. An immersive experience of yoga, Taonga Puoro (traditional Māori instruments), meditation, Waiata and karakia (suitable for all levels) designed to embody the transformative journey that Matariki invites us to take.
