Jay Garman

Jay is a searcher who has aimed his life at a deeper, more fulfilling relationship with self and community. As a yoga educator, his passion is sharing Hañsa Flow with people who are ready to bring more grace and ease into their lives.

Hañsa Yoga is a slow flowing movement practice. It combines Eastern and Western methodologies to open the door to improved awareness, function, and integration. Hañsa means 'Swan' – beautiful, elegant, subtle, powerful.

Jay discovered yoga in 1995, diving into the Power Yoga scene in LA with Bryan Kest and orbiting around a variety of inspiring Ashtanga practitioners. But it became clear that much of the culture was based around performance and achievement, which was leading to de-stabilisation and injury. When Jay became a New Zealander in 2005, he was looking for a practice that was more supportive and kind. One that would compliment his days spent sitting at a desk, working to end extreme poverty and promote human rights for everyone.

Jay is also a Mitra in the Triratna Buddhist Community. In addition to being a yoga educator, he studies and practices Dharma and Buddhist meditation (when he's not being a dad, a husband, an organic gardener and a plant-based chef!) .
